The Hughes Fam is having a TV-free day, inspired by the Berenstain Bears book entitled "Too Much TV." Our kids were becoming accustomed to watching too much TV and began ignoring their toys. So we turned it off for a day.
We read the book at breakfast time to get into the spirit. Because Avery and Mary Hannah are young, they adapt pretty well to change, but they sure were creative in trying to get around our tv-free choice. Avery suggested watching a movie. Nice try, pal!
Instead of enjoying their favorite cartoons, we played with toys. Mary Hannah took an interest in her baby dolls, rocking them in Mommy's chair and singing "Rock-a-bye-Baby." Avery played with cars. We read a few books. The kids even chose some toys they would like to donate to other kids! We want them to have a spirit of generosity from a young age.
Mary Hannah put down the dolls for a moment to pick up the guitar. She led our family in some worship songs she hears Daddy sing at church and finished with a rousing rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." (Hopefully I can capture that on video sometime soon.)
Just like the Berenstain Bears, our family went to the mall to take a walk. We enjoyed the new Five Guys Burgers and Fries at Aventura. Everyone had a lively conversation. Mary Hannah brought her baby doll.
The day has been going well so far. We even made it home in time to beat the thunderstorms!
The kids are napping now. I am going to dive head first into my new Esther study.

Love Five Guys. Their Fries are my favorite. Glad you all survived the no TV day. My Girls are into the Berenstain Bears Books and Mike actually found a few "Christian B.B. Books" too. We have "The Berenstain Bears go to Sunday School" "The Berenstain Bears say their Prayers." and there are two more, one is something about God Loves You.
